ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Dr. Nikki Instone earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio University in 1999. She currently works in private practice. She also offers presentations and seminars on a variety of topics. Taking an eclectic approach, she blends traditional psychological theories and techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, existential, and psychodynamic. Additionally, she also incorporates other perspectives that are more spiritual in nature, such as concepts from the Law of Attraction, yoga, and Reiki.
She has helped over a thousand clients. Over 70% of her clients have resolved their issues within an average of 7 sessions. She has helped corporate executives, stay-at-home moms, medical doctors, teachers, former Olympic athletes, psychologists, chiropractors, and orthodontists.
Dr. Instone’s purpose is to spread love to as many people as possible, helping them to know and accept and love themselves and others. In the process, she helps others shed what holds them back and move forward into their own incredible life. Her hope is to impact enough lives to help promote a larger sense of peace and love. She has an ability to see the pure essence of people and can help you see and know that in yourself and others.
She grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was the youngest of five in a blue-collar family. As a child, she experienced shyness, being sensitive and easily hurt by others. Paired with a need to be perfect and please others, she often experienced anxiety. Along the way, she picked up rules that restricted her ability to be herself. As is true for anyone, she made mistakes along the way. Being able to learn and grow from those mistakes helped her become a better person. After being raised Catholic, she turned away from religion for many years. Finding her way back to God through the study of Taoism and Buddhism, she was drawn to learn Reiki and became an ordained minister. Now, she has worked through and overcome her childhood struggles. She feels calm and confident, accepts and loves herself, and has released the rules that never really existed. Discovering that she is perfect with her imperfections, she is able to fully enjoy the marvels of life.

Permalink Reply by Alice Chan, Ph.D. on September 29, 2011 at 4:25pm This whole tough love thing makes me think of Tracy from Ally McBeal! Funny stuff!
Different question, Dr. Nikki, have you heard of "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman? When you talked about how your dad shows love by doing things for you, that's "acts of service" - one of the 5 love languages. Also, you mentioned working with couples to see if there's love underneath the built-up resentment. Oftentimes, it's just the two people speak different love languages, often with the man showing love through "acts of service" while the woman wants "quality time."
Anyway, would love to hear more from Dr. Nikki. So, YES for me!

Permalink Reply by Dominick Durso on November 14, 2011 at 5:13pm I like Dr Nikki. A little less metaphysical, but a good healing heart. Healing has more to do with being connected at the love level. Ajay, you had a question about energy (reiki) and how it works. I have an Idea that you may want to use, to better understand healing in general. That is, whether its physical or mental/emotional healing. People are electrical fields. This has been proven with Kurlian photography. When the electrical energy not present in the body, its because they are dead. There soul moves on to another plane of existence.
But when the bodies energies are unblocked (In the meridians) in the bodies circuitry. the body tends to be healthy. Acupuncturist know that this energy is available around the whole body. I have learned intuitively that when the energy of the body is blocked, the immune system can't function properly to create the various compounds and chemicals it creates to heal it self. So its necessary to find another source of energy. If the acupuncturist are trained to find the blocks, they typically insert a metal needle to connect the persons blocked meridian to the source of the energy.
Sometimes the energy clears the block for emotional reasons sometimes for physical reasons. Sometimes the block in the emotions is the reason for the physical problem. This is the basis for most energy healing. The body runs at between 70 to 90 milli volts of electricity. Very low level. Hope this helps.
